I really enjoyed this book。 Joy and Stan have been married for 50 years and have 4 grown up children。 So when Joy disappears, seemingly without trace, the family are naturally worried。 And now the police think Stan had something to do with her disappearance。 This is a great story of family secrets and relationships。 I thoroughly recommend this book。 Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy。

Although I haven't read all of Liane Moriarty's books, I always enjoy her titles when I do pick them up and this one was no exception。 In a way, this is testament to her writing, as this is about a tennis family, a sport which I find deadly dull。 Stan and Joy Delaney are retired now, but were well known for running a tennis school, in which they had a lot of success - including creating one world famous player, Harry Haddad, who dropped Stan, rather unexpectedly, as his coach, before going on to Although I haven't read all of Liane Moriarty's books, I always enjoy her titles when I do pick them up and this one was no exception。 In a way, this is testament to her writing, as this is about a tennis family, a sport which I find deadly dull。 Stan and Joy Delaney are retired now, but were well known for running a tennis school, in which they had a lot of success - including creating one world famous player, Harry Haddad, who dropped Stan, rather unexpectedly, as his coach, before going on to success。 Stan and Joy are quite bored by retirement and Joy is hoping that one of her four, adult children, will provide her with a grandchild soon - but there is little hope of that。 Amy is the eldest and known to have had her mental health struggles, while sister, Brooke, the youngest, has separated from her husband and her time is taken up by her new physiotherapy practice。 The sons are Troy, a divorced, successful businessman, and teacher, Logan who has also split up with his long term girlfriend。 One night, a young woman, named Savannah, turns up at Stan and Joy's house and bangs at the door。 She claims to have left her apartment after an incident with her boyfriend and chose their house at random, unsure what to do, or where to go。 Joy, full of maternal love, takes her in and they offer her a spare room。 Before the Delaney children know where they are, Savannah has moved in, but where did she come from, what are her motives and was her arrival really by chance? When Joy goes missing, the storyline moves between past and present, including the investigation into what happened to Joy, who sent a text to say she was going 'off grid,' but suspicion in the neighbourhood is running wild。The characters in this book are excellently written。 I liked the interactions between the Delaney siblings and I enjoyed Savannah, who suspiciously quickly makes herself indispensable, but whose motives are obviously suspect。 Stan and Joy are also well written, as are the various people who knew them - many of whom can't help wondering how perfect their marriage really was? I have to say that the characters worked better for me than the plot, but, overall, a really enjoyable read。 I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, for review。 。。。more

Not gonna lie, I haven't been super impressed with Moriarty's last couple books, even though I've loved her older novels。 So, I was a little nervous about her newest。 I shouldn't have been because APPLES NEVER FALL is a delightful novel, reminiscent of those older books I enjoyed so much。 It's funny, insightful, and compelling。 The characters are complex and intriguing, likable although hardly faultless。 Plot-wise, the story was engrossing and twisty enough to keep me turning pages。 The ending d Not gonna lie, I haven't been super impressed with Moriarty's last couple books, even though I've loved her older novels。 So, I was a little nervous about her newest。 I shouldn't have been because APPLES NEVER FALL is a delightful novel, reminiscent of those older books I enjoyed so much。 It's funny, insightful, and compelling。 The characters are complex and intriguing, likable although hardly faultless。 Plot-wise, the story was engrossing and twisty enough to keep me turning pages。 The ending did surprise me since I was SURE the clues were leading somewhere else。 Moriarty's prose is always bright and engaging, peppered with plenty of wit and wisdom。 All of these elements combined to make APPLES NEVER FALL a thoroughly engrossing, entertaining read。 I enjoyed it very much。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 Thank you, Goodreads for the Advanced Reader’s Edition。 This is my kind of book。 It is fairly long, but fast paced。 Family drama? Check! Questionable characters? Check! Past and present timelines? Check! Mystery? Check!

The characterization was amazing。 I never guessed where the author was going with this, but she did it so well。 I really had difficulty putting it down。

Thank you to Libro。fm for my ALC 🤍What can I say? Liane knows how to write a family-centered novel and she does it very very very well。 Did not disappoint。
Dolank,
I actually loved the book; the suspense, the adult/child characters, and the realization that retirement is not all that it is suppose to be。 However, I feel like the book should have ended when the mystery was solved。 I felt like the reflection took away from the book, silly I know, because reflection was the theme of the book。
Kathy,
I received an ARC from a Goodreads giveaway。Liane Moriarty does not disappoint。 While this book is less suspenseful then some of her others, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the story of Joy Delaney and her family。

I have to say, I was a little skeptical at first, but Moriarty has done it again! The tension in this book builds VERY slowly and it wasn't until about halfway through that I started to really get into it。 It is a slow-burner, building the tension over time。 It's a delicious mystery, with a complex set of characters who you'll love and recognize - or at the very least be entertained by。 I have to say, I was a little skeptical at first, but Moriarty has done it again! I usually enjoy this author but I think this time the editors just let her run wild! So much back story and character development, which I usually insist upon, but Wow! I read an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 This was a great family drama with a fun mystery element。 I loved the pacing, plot, and dimensions of the characters (especially Brooke, who I found myself relating so much to in a way I never have in anything else I’ve read)。 My only complaint would be that the book felt just a bit too long。 If it could have been just fifty pages shorter, I think this would have been five stars。

4。5 stars。 I felt a bit dazed (in a good way) when I put this one down。 Liane Moriarty adds so much depth to her mysteries, a la Tana French, in comparison to so many other thriller authors who are very quick and dirty with their writing。 I thought this story was so well constructed, the mystery was beautifully unraveled, the perspectives shifted (even to side characters!) expertly - I just cannot fault her craft。 The final chapter was chilling, and an intense and memorable way to end the nearly 4。5 stars。 I felt a bit dazed (in a good way) when I put this one down。 Liane Moriarty adds so much depth to her mysteries, a la Tana French, in comparison to so many other thriller authors who are very quick and dirty with their writing。 I thought this story was so well constructed, the mystery was beautifully unraveled, the perspectives shifted (even to side characters!) expertly - I just cannot fault her craft。 The final chapter was chilling, and an intense and memorable way to end the nearly 500 page book。 I do feel like it was a bit lengthy, and I almost feel as though it would have benefited from removing 75-100 pages of extraneous description。 The final portion of the book seemed a bit forced。。。without sharing any spoilers, it does seem as though it was "added on" at some point in 2020。 Overall, a fantastic addition to my Liane Moriarty collection。 。。。more
